Description:
This position involves caring for patients in an oncology step-down unit.
The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4.
You will be responsible for the administration of chemotherapy and blood products.
Experience with managing central lines and care for patients undergoing bone marrow transplants is essential.
You are expected to work on an emergency team when necessary, based on unit manager assignments.
The patient population includes individuals with hematology and medical oncology diagnoses.
This role requires strong competencies in accessing/managing ports and telemetry monitoring.
The unit encourages first-time travelers to apply.
Interdisciplinary support includes services such as physical therapy, respiratory services, and social services.
The facility uses Epic for charting and has integrated equipment for medication administration.
The unit is designed with special attention to patients requiring positive pressure environments.
Weekend coverage is required every other week.
Additional skills needed include phlebotomy, isolation precautions, and care for feeding tubes.
Management of dysrhythmias and understanding of insulin protocols is also necessary.
Candidates should be comfortable with rapid response and code team involvement if required.
A thorough understanding of isolation precautions and patient safety protocols is vital for this role.
Overall, you will be expected to provide high-quality patient care and work collaboratively with the healthcare team.
