Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Oncology Duration: 26 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience License: Active Illinois license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated Certifications: BLS; ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate Must-Have: Experience with IV chemotherapy and immunotherapy regimens, including handling precautions and monitoring for side effects. Description: The unit has 19 private beds. Nurse-to-patient ratios are based on unit census, typically 1:5 on days and 1:6 on nights, but can vary. 1:1 staffing is provided for specific medications/therapies. Common diagnoses include all types of cancer, with a focus on lymphoma and leukemia. Hematology and medical patients are also cared for, along with radiation oncology and gynecological oncology patients. RNs are not required to titrate drips; adjustments require a physician's order. Common set rate drips include heparin and 24-hour chemotherapy bags. There is a charge nurse available 24/7 who may occasionally take an assignment based on need. House supervisors are also present 24/7. Patient care technicians support the unit, with staffing adjusted based on census. RNs are tasked with troubleshooting respiratory equipment like CPAP and BiPAP machines. Telemetry monitoring is managed house-wide, with no expectation for RNs to read or interpret strips. Shifts are scheduled for 12 hours, starting either in the morning or evening, depending on unit needs. Self-scheduling is utilized, and requests are managed by designated personnel. An every-other-weekend and holiday work requirement is expected. There are no on-call or standby requirements, but travel nurses may participate in float rotations. Experience with EMR documentation using Epic Beacon is utilized on this unit. Experience administering IV chemotherapy and immunotherapy medications is required.
