Job Title: Pediatric Oncology Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Pediatric Oncology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Any 3 × 12-hour shifts Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 18 months of experience in an acute and chronic care setting with solid oncology experience License: Registered Nurse Certifications: APHON Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Provider Status, PALS, and BLS certification Must-Have: Flu vaccination required, with no exemptions Description: Responsibilities include administering chemotherapy, blood components, fluid and electrolyte replacements, and oncology treatments. Assessing patient conditions and managing side effects is essential. Offering emotional support to patients and their families is a crucial part of the role. The ideal candidate should display appropriate prioritization skills in a fast-paced setting. Inpatient Hematology Oncology includes a 16-bed unit. The typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 3 patients to 1 nurse; this may fluctuate to 4 patients to 1 nurse when there are medical-surgical patients on the unit. A charge nurse is available without a patient assignment for every shift. A team lead nurse is also present without a patient assignment to assist with double checks, high alert drugs, procedures, and patient transport. Nursing care partners will provide nursing assistant tasks.
