Job Title: Registered Nurse - Oncology (Outpatient) Profession: RN Specialty: Oncology (Outpatient) Duration: 13 months Shift: Day Shift Hours per Shift: 9 hours Experience: Minimum years of experience preferred License: Registered Nurse (RN) licensure Certifications: Ongoing certifications required Must-Have: CPR or BLS certification, Oncology Nursing Certification, or Chemotherapy Immunotherapy certification Description: Delivers coordinated nursing care for patients in an oncology department according to established standards of care and the nursing process. Supervises and directs the activities of various levels of assigned nursing staff. Coordinates care with other disciplines while utilizing critical thinking and professional discretion. Conducts baseline assessment and nursing history of outpatients receiving radiation therapy including vital signs and medication history. Utilizes guidelines in documentation. Assesses patients for fall risk, allergies, and communicates findings to physicians and team. Conducts weekly assessments of patients for signs and symptoms of side effects from radiation therapy. Prepares charts for initial assessments and follow-up visits to the radiation therapy department. Communicates pertinent changes to the physician. Assists physicians with procedures performed in the radiation therapy department. Prepares exam rooms for patients. Takes vital signs and assists physicians with procedures. Cleans and maintains instruments used in procedures. Performs blood draws and initiates intravenous therapy for medication administration. Administers medication as ordered by the physician. Administers oxygen when necessary. Acts as a mediator and resource regarding transportation, scheduling, and medical issues. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Commits to the safety and well-being of associates and patients, including compliance with vaccination requirements. This department provides comprehensive coordinated care for ambulatory patients with complex diseases. A team approach is utilized to provide patients access to multiple physicians and caregivers in one visit, enhancing efficiency in treatment delivery.
