- ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate - Oncology Nursing Society (ONS).
Must-Have:
- Associate's Degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
Description:
Under general supervision, provides nursing care to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex.
Administers oral, subcutaneous injections, chemotherapy drugs, and other medications as ordered.
Consults with other medical personnel and provides expert information about chemotherapy and side effects.
Assumes responsibility for clinic-specific assignments.
Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments.
Notes changes in physician orders for assigned patients.
Assists physician with conscious sedation patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatment.
Obtains and monitors physiological data, observing manifestations and intervening when necessary.
Administers medication as prescribed and manages intravenous infusions and blood products.
Delivers patient care competently.
Interacts with families and patients to share care plans, discharge information, and continued care.
Informs patients and families of clinic procedures.
Provides chemotherapy-related education to patients and families.
Answers inquiries and offers guidance as appropriate.
Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.
Delegates tasks to support staff.
Schedules patient follow-up activities related to treatment.
Assists with coordination of care by obtaining referrals and conducting follow-up calls after visits.
Performs other duties as assigned.
