Purpose of Position:
Delivers care through the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Directs and guides patient care, teaching, and activities of ancillary personnel while maintaining professional nursing standards within hospital policy. Ensures high-quality customer service standards.
Major Accountabilities:
- Effectively employs the nursing process by maintaining relevant and accurate patient records.
- Provides comprehensive documentation of patient assessments throughout hospital admission, covering physical, psychological, and social dimensions, along with discharge plans.
- Summarizes assessment data to initiate plan of care and communicates necessary information to patient care providers.
- Demonstrates proficiency in the role of charge nurse and in Computerized Nursing Informatics.
- Acts as a resource for patient care, staff orientation, and education.
- Actively participates in unit staff meetings, mandatory programs, and continues professional development, earning credit for participation in relevant committees.
- Contributes to the identification and evaluation of aspects of patient care, adhering to safety and blood/body fluid policies.
- Assesses personal learning needs and maintains documentation of ongoing professional development activities.
- Updates knowledge of age-appropriate techniques and regulations.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding patients and hospital matters, representing the hospital positively in the community.
Education/Experience/Training:
- Outpatient experience required
- Travel experience required
- Proficient in English communication
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
- BSN preferred
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
- Passed pharmacology exam
- Skills in educating and counseling oncology patients in curative and palliative treatments
- Ability to work with terminally ill patients and their families
