Key Responsibilities
Provide direct patient care on a 36-bed Post-Op, Oncology, and Telemetry unit with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:5–6
Care for general medical-surgical and post-operative patients including laparoscopic cholecystectomy and appendectomy cases, as well as oncology patients presenting with complications such as neutropenic precautions, pneumonia, and infections
Manage and monitor patients with chest tubes, including those discharged with PleurX chest tubes
Read and interpret telemetry strips independently using Philips monitors, in coordination with a central monitor technician
Titrate Heparin drips as required; no cardiac drips utilized on this unit
Float to other medical-surgical and telemetry units as needed; participate in every-other-weekend and holiday rotation schedules alongside permanent staff
Experience in medical-surgical, telemetry, post-operative, or oncology nursing
Ability to read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips
Willingness to adhere to unit dress code (royal blue scrubs) and no artificial nail policy
Preferred Experience / Skills
ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy and Biotherapy certification
Experience with PleurX chest tube management
Familiarity with neutropenic precaution protocols and oncology patient populations
