Medical Oncology - Registered Nurse

Key Responsibilities
  • Independently administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and injections (chemo, hormonal, and non-chemo/hormonal) in accordance with provider orders
  • Access and manage port-a-caths, PICCs, and Hickman catheters, including performing venipuncture, dressing changes, and lab draws via central access devices
  • Monitor and maintain accurate records of intravenous therapies and patient responses to treatment, ensuring complete and concise documentation of condition, medications, and care
  • Notify the Medical Oncologist or Nurse Practitioner of unusual occurrences and initiate appropriate emergency action when necessary
  • Verify informed consent prior to administering chemotherapy and ensure proper handling, administration, and disposal of hazardous drugs with appropriate PPE
  • Provide education to patients, families, and caregivers regarding medications, treatments, expected responses, side effects, disease process, nutrition, and activity adjustments
Required Qualifications
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Experience administering chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapies in an oncology setting
  • Proficiency in central venous access device management, including port-a-caths, PICCs, and Hickman catheters
  • Knowledge of proper handling, administration, and disposal of hazardous drugs and appropriate PPE usage
  • Proficiency in Epic EMR
  • Ability to maintain a safe environment in compliance with applicable policies and procedures
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification
  • Experience in an outpatient or infusion oncology setting with semi-private bay configuration
  • Strong patient and family education skills related to oncology disease processes and treatment side effects
