Experience: Minimum of 1 year of acute care surgical floor experience; stepdown/PCU experience preferred.
License: Current RN License issued by the state board of nursing or a current multistate compact RN License.
Certifications: Current Basic Life Support certification issued by the American Heart Association.
Must-Have:
- Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, techniques, and procedures.
- Ability to organize, plan, coordinate, and evaluate nursing services and apply nursing techniques.
- Ability to maintain good working relationships with other employees.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to respond effectively to cultural and language needs of patients and visitors.
- Some computer skills.
Description:
Under general supervision, provides nursing care in a hospital to various patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex.
Assumes responsibility for an assigned group of patients.
Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments.
Notes all changes in physician orders for assigned patients.
Assists physicians in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatments.
Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients.
Observes the physiological manifestations of patients and intervenes when necessary.
Administers medications as prescribed.
Initiates, regulates, and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products.
Delivers patient care competently.
Interacts with patients and their families in sharing care plans while in the hospital and at discharge.
Informs patients and families of hospital procedures.
Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.
Delegates tasks to support staff.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Experience with ENT and/or transplant patients is preferred.
The unit is a mix of medical-surgical and stepdown care.
Nurses may work in either capacity depending on staffing and acuity.
Preceptor and charge experience is preferred.
Patients require close monitoring for infection, rejection, and timely medication delivery.
This is not a PACU position.
