Job Title: Operating Room Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Operating Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 3/10-hour days with call rotation Hours per Shift: 10 hours Experience: O.R. nursing experience preferred License: Current RN license Certifications: ACLS upon hire or active BLS card and obtain AHA ACLS within 60 days of hire Must-Have: Ability to function in an environment with competing priorities Description: Conducts interactions with everyone in a friendly, courteous, and respectful manner. Goes out of the way to offer assistance to others. If unable to offer assistance, finds someone who can. Advocates to ensure privacy and confidentiality while helping others to maintain awareness. Maintains a clean and safe environment. Responds appropriately and immediately in emergency situations. Maintains a safe and healthy environment for patients, visitors, and staff to provide the highest level of comfort and minimize risk and injury. Ensures compliance with regulations to maintain accreditation and licensure. Complies with attendance and tardiness policies. Reports incidents in a timely and effective manner. Provides thorough, timely, and accurate documentation of all pertinent data, therapeutic interventions, and patient responses. Provides timely and thorough reports on assigned patients to other healthcare team members to ensure integration of services and continuity of patient care. Promotes learning for colleagues and self through functions as a preceptor, instructor, or trainer. Proactively identifies risks to patient safety and opportunities to reduce medical and health care errors. Identifies ethical issues in care and develops plans to address them. Safely administers medications and intravenous therapy in accordance with physician orders, protocols, policies, and procedures. Assesses patient pain levels upon admission and reassesses effectiveness of pain control as needed. Collaborates with surgical teams to assure patient well-being during surgical intervention. Maintains sterile fields and directs the correct handling and sterilization of supplies and instruments. Identifies patients correctly by checking identification bands and consent forms and verifying operative procedures. Applies principles of aseptic practice and oversees the selection and preparation of supplies and equipment. Maintains sponge, needle, and instrument counts according to policies and procedures. Identifies, labels, cares for, and handles specimens and cultures according to established policy and procedure.
