Job Title: RN II - Surgery (Mandatory Call) Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Surgery (Mandatory Call) Duration: 8 weeks Shift: Day Shift Hours per Shift: Not specified Experience: One year previous full-time experience in the operating room required License: Current Registered Nurse license in state of practice required Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification preferred, Certified Nurse, Operating Room (CNOR) preferred Must-Have: Current Epic experience Description: This position assists surgeons and anesthesiologists and coordinates the flow of equipment, supplies, and staff during surgical procedures. The role assures patient safety throughout the perioperative phase of care. Participation in patient care planning, assessment, and nursing treatment is essential. The nurse is competent to circulate in the operating room during a surgical procedure. Knowledge of and adherence to the principles of aseptic technique is required. The nurse is responsible for safely operating all equipment routinely utilized in the operating room. Preparation of patients for surgery, including safe, appropriate anatomical positioning, is necessary. The nurse performs pre-, intra-, and post-procedure patient care planning and assessment. Safely handling and disposing of biohazardous materials from operative procedures is a critical task. The nurse must access facility information systems to retrieve and utilize pertinent information for the provision of patient care. Demonstrating knowledge and skills related to patient safety, security, and emergency preparedness is required. Documentation of tissue and allograft temperature, verifying package integrity, and delivering to sterile fields must be completed according to guidelines. Efficient use of downtime for job-related or unit-specific work is expected. Other job-related duties may be assigned as necessary.
