Job Summary

Join a dedicated surgical team as an Operating Room Registered Nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in Bangor, Maine. This role involves providing comprehensive patient care throughout the perioperative continuum, from pre-operative assessment and preparation to intra-operative assistance and post-operative recovery.

The successful candidate will work within a dynamic surgical environment, caring for a diverse patient population undergoing various surgical procedures. Responsibilities include ensuring patient safety, maintaining sterile fields, assisting surgeons, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, compassionate care under the supervision of the Unit Director and Clinical Leader/Charge Nurse.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in the perioperative setting in accordance with St. Joseph Hospital policies and procedures and the Maine Board of Nursing.
• Prepare the operating room, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are available and sterile.
• Assist surgeons and anesthesia providers during surgical procedures, including scrubbing and circulating duties.
• Monitor patient's physiological status during surgery and respond to changes appropriately.
• Maintain strict aseptic technique to prevent surgical site infections.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
• Document all aspects of patient care accurately and thoroughly.
• Collaborate effectively with physicians, anesthesiologists, surgical technologists, and other healthcare professionals.
• Educate patients and families regarding surgical procedures and post-operative care.

Required Qualifications

• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) from an accredited institution.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
• 1-3 years of experience as a Registered Nurse, preferably in an Operating Room setting.

• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification, current or obtained within 1 year of hire.
