Description:
A professional nurse is accountable for the care of a group of patients.
The Registered Nurse (RN) focuses on safe and effective patient and family-centered care, customer satisfaction, and quality outcomes.
The RN is responsible for assisting in maintaining a financially stable unit, promoting personal development with an emphasis on evidence-based practice and education supported by a Practice Governance framework.
The RN supervises licensed and non-licensed staff members.
Applying the caring processes of the Kristin M. Swanson Model of Care, the RN is responsible for assessing, developing, implementing, and evaluating the plan of care.
The RN focuses on patient and family comfort, education, and satisfaction.
The RN applies educational and professional experiences in the delivery of quality care and mentoring/precepting staff.
Job Responsibilities:
Assessment:
Performs assessments and reassessments per policy and procedure or as warranted by patient condition.
Demonstrates the ability to make sound independent decisions.
Development & Implementation:
Initiates, prioritizes, and implements the plan of care.
Reviews and revises the plan as indicated.
Collaborates with patients/families and interdisciplinary services.
Utilizes resources appropriately to support the needs of the organization, patients, and families.
Evaluation:
Monitors and documents responses to clinical interventions.
Education:
Facilitates, coordinates, provides, and evaluates education specific to patient/family needs.
Ensures education is appropriate to the care, treatment, and services provided during their stay and at discharge.
Leadership:
Delegates tasks to licensed and non-licensed personnel.
Functions as a mentor/preceptor.
Demonstrates, encourages, and facilitates teamwork.
Identifies and communicates opportunities for improvement effectively.
Participates in quality, safety, and service process improvement efforts.
Implements practice changes and complies with regulatory standards.
Participates in the Practice Governance model.
