Job Title: RN Circulator Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Perioperative Nursing Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Preferred previous RN circulator experience License: Current RN license in the State of Oregon Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS Must-Have: Commitment to patient advocacy, ability to work effectively in a team Description: The Registered Nurse specializing in perioperative nursing practice during intraoperative surgical experience. Responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care in the operating room and other areas of perioperative services for all patient populations. The perioperative nurse acts as the patient advocate and is responsible for the direction and supervision of any personnel assigned to him/her. He/she will be on call for the Surgery Unit on a regular scheduled rotation. Essential Job Functions: Accept responsibility for the direction, control, and planning of an activity. Make evaluations and decisions based on measurable or verifiable criteria. Work independently. Implement the plan of care by: - Protecting the patient from injury caused by extraneous objects and chemical, electrical, laser, mechanical, and thermal sources. - Performing accounting procedures to protect the patient from unintended retained surgical items. - Performing interventions necessary to ensure that the patient's procedure is performed on the correct site, side, and level. - Managing the patient's specimens according to organizational policy and procedures. - Communicating the patient's status to relevant parties throughout the continuum of care. - Administering medications safely and correctly. - Performing interventions to maintain the patient's wound and tissue perfusion at or above baseline levels. - Performing interventions to maintain the status of the patient's genitourinary, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, endocrine, respiratory, cardiovascular, and neurological systems and fluid, electrolyte, and acid-base balances at or above baseline levels. - Performing interventions to protect the patient from surgical site infection. - Protecting the patient's rights, dignity, and privacy. - Providing age-specific, culturally competent, and ethical care within legal standards of practice. - Providing consistent and comparable care regardless of the setting. Document nursing care accurately, completely, and legibly. Collaborate effectively with other disciplines as applicable. Use problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with team members. Maintain required competencies. Pursue professional growth and participate in a professional organization. Act as a patient advocate and maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information. Participate in required education for applicable programs related to the position. Agency nurses may be floated to other departments where qualified to perform patient care before core staff is floated. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications: Education Required: Associate of Science in Nursing. Preferred: Bachelor's degree in nursing. Licenses/Certifications/Registrations Required: Current RN license in the State of Oregon, BLS, ACLS, & PALS Certification. Preferred: CNOR, Peri-op 101, CRASE training. Other: Perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure.
