This role is for an experienced Operating Room Registered Nurse at an acute care facility in Gardner, Massachusetts. The successful candidate will be an integral part of the surgical team, providing comprehensive perioperative nursing care to patients undergoing a variety of surgical procedures.
The OR RN is responsible for ensuring patient safety, maintaining a sterile environment, and collaborating effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and surgical technicians throughout the surgical process. This position requires a commitment to high-quality patient care, meticulous attention to detail, and adherence to established standards of practice.
Key Responsibilities
Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing interventions and patient care plans in the perioperative setting.
Provide direct patient care in accordance with established standards of care, practice, protocols, and policies.
Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and surgical technicians to ensure optimal patient well-being during surgical interventions.
Maintain and direct the correct care, handling, and sterilization of sterile supplies and instruments, ensuring a sterile field.
Verify patient identification, consent forms, operative procedure, and site prior to transfer to the operating room.
Apply principles of aseptic practice and oversee the selection and preparation of supplies, equipment, and instrumentation for all surgical cases.
Utilize principles of body mechanics for safe patient positioning and transfer.
Ensure all techniques and practices during surgical procedures adhere to perioperative practice standards.
Perform and maintain accurate sponge, needle, and instrument counts according to policies and procedures, reporting results to the surgeon.
Identify, label, care for, and handle all specimens and cultures per established policy.
Administer medications and intravenous therapy safely and accurately in accordance with physician orders and protocols.
Assess and reassess patient pain levels, document responses, and notify physicians as needed.
Provide patient and family teaching based on identified learning needs and barriers.
Collaboratively plan and prepare patients and families for discharge, incorporating support systems and resources.
Delegate and supervise nursing interventions performed by others as appropriate.
Prioritize patient care effectively, seeking assistance and recognizing the need for emergency intervention.
Provide thorough, timely, and accurate documentation of all pertinent data, interventions, and patient responses.
Promote a safe and healthy environment for patients, visitors, and staff, minimizing risk and injury.
Actively engage in and monitor compliance with hand hygiene practices.
Required Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
Minimum of 1 year of recent Operating Room (OR) nursing experience.
Ability to function effectively in an environment with competing priorities.
