Job Title: RN - OR Circulator Profession: RN Specialty: OR Circulator Duration: 10 weeks Shift: Day/Evening Hours per Shift: 8 hours (0600 to 2030) Experience: One year previous full-time experience in the operating room required License: Current RN license in state of practice required Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required Must-Have: Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification preferred Description: Assists surgeons and anesthesiologists and coordinates the flow of equipment, supplies, and staff during surgical procedures. Ensures patient safety throughout the perioperative phase of care. Participates in patient care planning, assessment, and nursing treatment. Is competent to circulate in the Operating Room during surgical procedures. Is knowledgeable of and consistently applies the principles of aseptic technique. Is competent to safely operate all equipment routinely utilized in the Operating Room. Is competent to prepare patients for surgery, including safe and appropriate anatomical positioning. Is competent to perform pre, intra, and post-procedure patient care planning and assessment following established criteria. Is competent to safely handle and dispose of biohazardous materials from operative procedures. Is competent to access facility information systems to retrieve and utilize pertinent information for the provision of patient care or in the performance of other job-related responsibilities. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to safely and appropriately fulfill job-specific responsibilities related to patient safety, security, emergency preparedness, emergent patient situations, control of hazardous materials and waste, life safety, medical equipment, and utility systems as outlined in the environment of care plan. Documents temperature of tissue and verifies package integrity, delivering to sterile field per manufacturers' guidelines; documents the process in appropriate log books. Efficiently uses downtime for job-related or unit-specific work, including but not limited to chart auditing, cleaning, restocking, and training. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
