Job Title: Operating Room Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Surgery Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 06:30-17:00 Hours per Shift: 10 Experience: Minimum of 1 year current operating room experience License: Current state license as a Registered Nurse required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS Must-Have: California RN License Minimum of one year current operating room experience BLS upon hire and ongoing ACLS and PALS within six months of hire and ongoing Description: The RN renders collaborative nursing care via the defined department Method of Practice. This is to a caseload of patients for an assigned shift in accordance with the medical staff practitioner’s treatment plan. The role adheres to nursing standards of care/practice and professional code of ethics. The RN is committed to promoting the health potential of the patient (body-mind-spirit) through the implementation of the nursing process. Demonstrates the ability to delegate appropriately and direct staff in the coordination and delivery of care. Assumes responsibility for the appropriate utilization of care resources. Demonstrates positive interpersonal relationships with others in problem resolution. Is sensitive to the needs of patients, families, and fellow employees. Job Relationships: Reports directly to the Perioperative Services Director of Nursing. Reports indirectly to the House Supervisor and other management covering the department. Takes daily direction from the Coordinator of Surgery/Anesthesia/CSP. May be given direction by the Manager of OP/PACU. Collaborates with all members of the Health Care Team in the coordination of patient care. Delegates and directs assigned shift caseload team which may include RNs and surgical technicians. In the absence of the Coordinator, takes daily direction from an assigned Shift Charge RN. Job Exposure: This position includes tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. Age of Patient Population: Interprets the appropriate life span needs of patients. Provides appropriate population-based care according to the department skills checklist for identified populations and age groups. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of patients/families. Possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s life span. Qualifications: Graduate of a School of Nursing. Current state license as a Registered Nurse required. BSN/BA preferred. Possess a minimum of one year current operating room experience. Interpersonal skills necessary to instruct and comfort patients/families. Maintain effective communication with healthcare team members. Analytical skills necessary to prioritize workload and prepare nursing care plans. Implement effective nursing care and develop solutions to problems concerning patients' body, mind, and spirit. Basic computer knowledge including Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Word. Ability to learn computer software programs applicable to patient care and operations process. Must be able to understand, read, and write English clearly. Physical and Environmental Requirements: Able to fulfill physical requirements for this position as documented in the job description. May be exposed to periods of stress.
