Job Title: Operating Room Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Operating Room / Circulate, Pre-Op, Post Anesthesia Care Unit Nurse (PACU) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Shift Hours per Shift: 6:30 AM - 2:30 PM, Monday to Friday with some call coverage on weekends Experience: Minimum 6 years License: Current RN licensure in Colorado Certifications: ACLS certification; CNOR preferred Must-Have: Experience in Pre-op, OR/Circulator, and PACU Description: The RN is responsible for providing direct patient care within the scope of practice in surgical services. Must have experience in all three areas: Pre-op, OR/Circulator, and PACU. The RN will function as a primary caregiver and must be able to function in all three areas. The workweek consists of 40 hours, with rotational on-call during weekdays, weekends, and holidays. General working hours are Monday through Friday, with occasional late days to complete surgical case loads. Rotational surgical call with other circulating staff members averaging 1 to 2 days a week and every other or every third weekend, depending on the number of circulators available. Responsibilities include conducting assessments, documenting care, providing emotional support, coordinating transfers, recovering patients, circulating cases, assisting with processing instruments/equipment in central sterilizing, and preparing patients for surgery. The RN will assist other staff members and provide patient education. Knowledge of and/or interest in technical procedures and patient care is expected. Adherence to principles of infection control and departmental policies is required. The RN will follow national standards. The position requires the ability to perform effectively in highly stressful situations. Effective communication skills and the ability to interact with a wide variety of people are necessary. Physical requirements include long periods of standing, walking, and heavy lifting. Exposure to blood, body fluids, unpleasant sights, smells, and possible infectious diseases is inherent to the role.
