Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates nursing interventions, plans of care, and patient goals in the perioperative setting
Collaborates with surgeons, anesthesiologists, clinical coordinators, and surgical technicians to ensure patient well-being throughout surgical intervention
Maintains sterile fields and oversees the correct care, handling, and sterilization of sterile supplies and instruments
Applies principles of aseptic practice and oversees the selection and preparation of supplies, equipment, and instrumentation for all surgical cases
Maintains sponge, needle, and instrument counts per policy and procedure, and communicates results to the surgeon
Identifies, labels, cares for, and handles all specimens and cultures according to established policy; verifies patient identification, consent forms, operative procedure, and site prior to entering the operating room
Required Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
Current Massachusetts RN license required
ACLS required upon hire, OR active BLS with AHA ACLS obtained within 60 days of hire
Ability to function effectively in an environment with competing priorities
Excellent communication skills, ability to multitask, and a positive, can-do attitude
