    Director of Labor and Delivery

    Job Summary

    We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Labor and Delivery to provide strategic and operational leadership for our Labor and Delivery department at a community hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado. This pivotal role is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality, safe, and compassionate care to mothers, newborns, and their families throughout the labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum phases.

    The Director will oversee all clinical operations, foster staff development, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive continuous quality improvement initiatives. This position requires a collaborative leader who will work closely with physicians, midwives, nursing leaders, and interdisciplinary teams to achieve exceptional patient outcomes and cultivate a positive environment for both patients and staff.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Provide comprehensive leadership and operational oversight for the Labor & Delivery department, ensuring the highest standards of patient care and safety.
    • Lead, mentor, and support nursing and clinical staff through effective recruitment, ongoing professional development, and performance management.
    • Ensure strict compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, and hospital-specific standards and policies.
    • Monitor departmental performance metrics and spearhead quality improvement initiatives to continuously enhance patient outcomes and overall experience.
    • Collaborate effectively with physicians, midwives, neonatal teams, and hospital leadership to ensure coordinated care and alignment with departmental and organizational goals.
    • Manage departmental resources, staffing levels, and budget to support efficient and effective operations.
    Required Qualifications
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
    • Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or a related field required.
    • Minimum of 10 years of clinical experience in Labor & Delivery.
    • Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership or management experience within a healthcare setting.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Additional maternal or neonatal certifications.
    Skills & Competencies
    • Clinical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of Labor & Delivery nursing practices, maternal-fetal medicine, and neonatal care.
    • Leadership & Management: Strategic planning, operational oversight, staff development, mentorship, performance management, budget management, resource allocation, and change management.
    • Quality & Safety: Proficient in quality improvement methodologies, patient safety protocols, and regulatory compliance.
