Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized plans of care; implement, evaluate, and revise nursing interventions based on patient needs and clinical circumstances.
Function as a circulator nurse by coordinating perioperative workflow outside the sterile field, preparing patients, verifying documentation, ensuring equipment readiness, completing surgical safety checklists, and facilitating communication among the surgical team.
Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately per provider orders and policy; recognize and respond to changes in patient condition with appropriate interventions or escalation of care.
Collaborate with providers and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care, facilitate referrals, and support continuity of services; document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in the electronic health record.
Participate in on-call coverage to support urgent and emergent surgical cases.
Participate in quality and performance improvement activities; maintain required competencies and certifications; provide guidance, delegation, and mentoring to ancillary staff and peers.
Required Qualifications
Associate's degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the State of Alaska.
Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association, required at time of hire.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – American Heart Association, required at time of hire for experienced nurses; must be obtained within six (6) months of hire for new graduates or nurses new to the specialty.
Clinical competency validation required within 3 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter.
High-risk competency validation required within 3 months of hire and annually thereafter.
Preferred Experience / Skills
Prior experience in an operating room or perioperative setting, including circulator nurse responsibilities.
Proficiency with electronic health records and clinical systems in a fast-paced surgical environment.
