Assess and respond to the physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of surgical patients through observation and interaction, serving as a patient advocate throughout the care continuum.
Utilize professional nursing skills and clinical judgment to implement individualized nursing care, including IV therapy and interpretation of diagnostic measures such as labs, radiology, and EKG.
Transcribe and implement physician orders accurately and in a timely manner; admit patients to the surgical center efficiently and complete thorough review of patient records to ensure compliance with correct surgical procedures, including site marking verification.
When assigned to PACU, apply critical thinking to assess patients, maintain airway, monitor vital signs, manage pain medication, and evaluate patients using discharge criteria to safely progress to Phase 2.
Work in pain management and eye laser procedure rooms as assigned; assist with nerve blocks and maintain familiarity with anesthesia supplies, crash cart, MH cart, and emergency medications.
Provide patient and family education, document accurately in electronic clinical records, and participate in committee meetings to support continuous quality improvement.
Required Qualifications
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Pennsylvania or compact licensure eligibility
Perioperative nursing experience, including pre-op, intraoperative, and/or PACU settings
Proficiency in IV therapy and knowledge of diagnostic measures including labs, radiology, and EKG
Ability to document accurately and in a timely manner using electronic medical record systems
Familiarity with surgical center protocols, including patient transfer processes and emergency procedures
Preferred Experience / Skills
Experience functioning as a float nurse across multiple perioperative areas
Familiarity with anesthesia supplies and assistance with nerve block procedures
Experience in pain management or laser procedure room environments
