Registered Nurse - Surgery/OR

Position Summary

Responsible for delivering patient care through the nursing process, including assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This role involves directing and coordinating nursing care for patients based on established nursing practice standards. Collaboration with other healthcare professionals is essential to provide quality, cost-effective, and efficient care, ensuring optimal patient outcomes. Acts as a resource person when necessary, while applying age-specific considerations and cultural diversity in patient care. The RN is tasked with caring for patients from birth to elderly during pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative phases.

Position Qualifications

• Minimum Education: Completion of a nursing program from an NLN approved institution; Associate Degree in Nursing required, BSN preferred.
• Minimum Experience: 1-2 years of OR experience.

License, Certification, Registration

• Licensed in good standing as a Registered Professional Nurse.
• Current BLS & ACLS certification; PALS preferred.
• National Certification in Surgery/PACU preferred.

Equipment/Tools

• Office equipment (i.e., computer, telephone, fax machine, copy machine).
• Medical equipment (e.g., cardiac monitors, autoclave).

Specialized Knowledge and Skills

• Proficient in oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to practice nursing in accordance with relevant Alaska regulations.
• Cognitive and technical knowledge required for managing care across the continuum.
• Flexible work schedule with the capacity for independent actions within prescribed limits.
• Utilizes the nursing process effectively in patient care.
• Administers treatments and medications, interprets diagnostic tests, and provides education for patients and families.
• Knowledge of AORN standards required.
• Understanding of medical terminology and ability to work in a patient care setting.

Language Skills

• Able to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.
• Ability to document actions involved in care delivery and follow established guidelines.
• Capable of presenting information and responding to inquiries from various stakeholders.

Mathematical Skills

• Able to perform basic arithmetic operations and interpret various mathematical concepts.
• Competence in computing rates, ratios, and percentages.

Reasoning Ability

• Able to solve practical problems and navigate a variety of concrete variables.
• Capable of interpreting various instructions provided in multiple forms.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervises Administrative Assistants, Schedulers, and CSR Technicians in collaboration with the Charge Nurse.

Shift Information

Flexible day or night shifts required with holiday coverage as needed.

Minimum Years of Experience

4 years of experience preferred.
