Travel Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) – 13-Week Contract in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine

Experienced Operating Room Registered Nurses can join a collaborative perioperative team in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, for a 13-week travel nursing contract. This opportunity is ideal for an OR nurse with broad surgical experience who enjoys working in a close-knit critical access hospital. Support approximately 8–10 cases per day across three operating rooms and one GI endoscopy room while expanding your skills in pre-operative care and post-procedure recovery.

Travel Nursing Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,500–$2,630
• Shift: 8-hour day shifts, Monday–Thursday, approximately 7:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
• Hours: 36 guaranteed hours per week
• Call Requirement: 4–8 call shifts per month from approximately 4:30 p.m.–7:00 a.m., plus one weekend of call per month
• Call Response: 20-minute response time required
• Orientation: Four department orientation shifts, with independent call expected during the second week
• Healthcare Setting: 25-bed critical access hospital with three operating rooms and one GI endoscopy room
• Technology: Cerner EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Pyxis medication dispensing
• Additional Details: No floating; surgical scrubs provided and free parking available

Operating Room Nurse Job Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse license eligible to work in Maine
• At least 2 years of recent Operating Room nursing experience; candidates with 1 year may be considered if experienced across the required specialties
• Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications
• Strong experience circulating a broad range of surgical cases
• Experience with general, orthopedic, podiatry, gynecologic, obstetric, endoscopic, and urologic procedures
• Ability to circulate C-sections; Labor and Delivery nursing experience does not replace OR circulation experience
• Comfort with cardiac monitoring and interpretation of cardiac rhythms during post-case monitoring and call coverage
• Willingness to learn pre-operative interviews and post-procedure recovery responsibilities
• Cerner experience is strongly preferred; candidates without Cerner experience must be comfortable learning new electronic medical records quickly
• Ability to meet the 20-minute callback response requirement
• First-time travel nurses may be considered with strong applicable Operating Room experience

Perioperative Nursing Responsibilities

• Circulate surgical cases safely and efficiently while maintaining strict aseptic technique and patient safety standards
• Support general procedures including laparoscopic and open gallbladder surgeries, appendectomies, colectomies, and hernia repairs
• Circulate orthopedic cases such as total hip, knee, and shoulder replacements and sports medicine procedures
• Assist with podiatry, gynecologic, obstetric, endoscopic, and urologic procedures
• Circulate C-sections and support the perioperative needs of obstetric patients
• Recover patients after procedures during callback coverage and monitor cardiac rhythms as appropriate
• Complete pre-operative interviews and assist with pre-op workflows as needed
• Transport patients when required and assist with room turnover and cleaning between cases
• Collaborate with the supervisor, charge nurse, CRNAs, respiratory therapy, and other members of the surgical team
• Participate in scheduled weekday, overnight, weekend, and limited holiday call coverage
