Requirements

  • Experience Required: Operating Room nursing experience strongly preferred
  • Certification Required: CNOR strongly preferred; ACLS required upon hire, or active BLS with AHA ACLS obtained within 60 days
  • License Required: Current Massachusetts RN License
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing school

Perioperative Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care throughout the surgical experience.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, clinical coordinators, and surgical technicians.
  • Verify patient identification, consent forms, operative procedure, and surgical site.
  • Maintain sterile fields and ensure proper handling and sterilization of instruments and supplies.
  • Apply aseptic techniques during surgical procedures.
  • Prepare supplies, equipment, and instrumentation for surgical cases.
  • Maintain accurate sponge, needle, and instrument counts and communicate results to the surgeon.
  • Safely position and transfer patients using proper body mechanics.
  • Ensure perioperative techniques and practices meet established standards.
  • Identify, label, handle, and care for specimens and cultures according to policy.
  • Administer medications and IV therapy safely according to orders and protocols.
  • Assess and reassess patient pain and evaluate effectiveness of pain management.
  • Provide patient and family education and support discharge planning.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation and communicate patient information to the healthcare team.
  • Promote patient safety, infection prevention, privacy, and confidentiality.
