Position Overview
Seeking an experienced Operating Room RN to provide safe, efficient perioperative nursing care across a broad patient population. The RN will coordinate surgical care, direct assigned team members, manage resources, and collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesia, surgical technologists, and the interdisciplinary care team.
Required Experience
- Minimum 1 year of current Operating Room RN experience
- Must be comfortable managing an assigned surgical caseload
- Strong circulating, delegation, prioritization, and care-coordination skills
- Must be able to work nightly call, weekends, and holidays
- Experience caring for patients across the lifespan
Required Credentials
- Active California RN license
- BLS
- ACLS
- PALS
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program
ACLS and PALS may be accepted within 6 months of hire if permitted by the facility, but current credentials are preferred for travel candidates.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess patients and develop individualized perioperative plans of care
- Provide nursing care according to physician treatment plans and surgical standards
- Circulate operating room procedures
- Coordinate care with Surgery, Anesthesia, CSP, PACU, and hospital leadership
- Delegate appropriate duties to RNs and Surgical Technologists
- Direct the assigned surgical team during procedures
- Prioritize workflow and utilize clinical resources appropriately
- Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition
- Educate and support patients and families
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation
- Follow infection prevention, safety, and bloodborne pathogen precautions
- Provide age-appropriate care for neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients
Leadership and Reporting
- Reports to the Perioperative Services Director of Nursing
- Works under the daily direction of the Surgery, Anesthesia, or CSP Coordinator
- May receive direction from the Outpatient Surgery/PACU Manager
- Takes direction from the Shift Charge RN or Board Runner when the Coordinator is unavailable
- Collaborates with the House Supervisor and interdisciplinary care team
