Operating Room Registered Nurse

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Operating Room Registered Nurse to join the surgical team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of OR nursing experience and must be comfortable with scrubbing responsibilities. The position offers exposure to a wide range of surgical specialties in a high-volume operating room environment.

Facility & Unit Information

• Department: Operating Room (OR)
• Number of Operating Rooms: 15 suites
• Average Case Volume: 25–45 cases per day
• EMR: Epic
• Orientation: 1 week of department-specific orientation
• Floating: None
• Scrubs: Provided
• Dress Code: Casual professional attire required when entering or leaving the facility

Required Qualifications & Certifications

• Minimum 3 years of Operating Room nursing experience
• Current Registered Nurse license through the Illinois State Board of Nursing
• Current American Heart Association BLS certification
• Scrubbing experience is required for RNs

Surgical Specialties

The OR supports a broad range of surgical specialties, including:

• General surgery
• Gynecology (GYN)
• Urology
• Plastics
• Robotics
• Neurology/Neurosurgery
• Orthopedics
• Spine
• EENT
• Cardiothoracic surgery

Staffing & Support

• Charge RN available 24/7
• Charge RNs do not carry a regular patient assignment but may assist in an operating room when needed
• Surgical Technologists are available, typically 1–2 per patient
• CNAs: Approximately 3–4 during the day, decreasing to 1 by 7:00 PM
• CNAs assist with cleaning and room turnover

Schedule & Call Requirements

• 8-hour shifts
• Various start times: 6:45 AM, 10:45 AM, and 2:45 PM
• Weeknight call: Approximately once per week
• Weekend call: Every 3rd–4th weekend
• Holiday call: Required
• Call response time: Not specified

OSF Requirements & Important Information

• Local rate applies to clinicians whose permanent address is within 50 miles. The local rate is $25 lower than the regular and overtime bill rates.
• OSF call-off policy allows the equivalent of 12 hours of call-off every 13 weeks without penalty or requiring payment for the missed shift.
• Orientation consists of 12 non-billable hours. Guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation.

• Active Illinois RN license or confirmation that the license application process has been initiated
• Confirmation that the candidate understands OSF is a Drug-Free Campus and is required to provide a negative drug screen for all panels
