Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced OR RN for a high-acuity surgical unit requiring 2-3 years of acute care experience and EPIC proficiency, with first-time travelers welcome.

Details

• Level I Trauma Center and Magnet-designated facility with 794 beds
• Surgery Room unit with 28 beds, including 2 hybrid CV/Vascular rooms
• Approximately 60-75 cases per day
• Patient population includes outpatient, inpatient, and trauma cases across GSW, stabbings, transplants (kidney, heart), donor cases, general, GYN, urology, robotics, vascular, ortho, neuro, and open heart/CABG procedures
• Hybrid room handles 5-10 adult cases per day including TAVR, AAA, endarterectomies, angiograms, and fistula revisions
• 20% pediatric caseload (open hearts, appy, chole)
• No liver or lung transplant cases
• Participates in Gifts of Hope cases
• EMR: EPIC
• IV Pump: Alaris; Med dispensing: Pyxis
• 10-hour day shift, 1045a-715p, 40 hours/week, with variable shift times including 8s and 12s
• 6-week rotation-based schedule provided 2-4 weeks in advance; no self-scheduling
• OR operates 24/7, with skeleton crew coverage overnight and after 1700 on weekends
• Weekend rotation required every 4th weekend (Sat-Sun)
• On-call required with 30-minute response time; sleeping room available for on-call staff
• No floating required

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• BLS certification required
• 2-3 years of acute care experience required
• Ability to scrub and circulate required
• Critical care experience preferred
• Level 1-2 trauma experience required
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Minimum 12 months of core OR/CVOR experience within the last year
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
• Candidate's middle name/initial, DOB, and last 4 of SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

• Support team includes charge nurse (no patient assignment M-F, available weekends/evenings), bedside anesthesiologist monitoring, resource nurse, surgeons, ANM, educators, service line reps, and EPIC super-user
• Orientation includes meeting educators/ANM, system access setup, online modules, and EPIC training on day one, followed by 2-3 days of unit orientation
• Holiday coverage required, including 1 winter holiday and 1 summer holiday
• 3 call shifts required within a 6-week period, including 2 weekend call shifts
• Scrubs provided; free parking available
• All RTO must be approved by the manager
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates accepted at the same pay rate with no radius restrictions
• Former Advocate Health employees must be separated for at least 12 months before becoming eligible for a travel assignment
