Surgical Center RN – Job Description

RN - PeriOp - Outpatient Surg

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess patients’ physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs and advocate for patient care.
• Provide skilled nursing care, clinical judgment, and timely interventions based on patient needs.
• Communicate patient assessments and coordinate care with physicians and the healthcare team.
• Perform/interpret basic diagnostic assessments including labs, radiology, and EKG; demonstrate IV therapy skills.
• Accurately transcribe and implement physician orders and efficiently admit patients to the surgical center.
• Maintain accurate electronic clinical documentation and verify all required surgical paperwork, site marking, and pre-procedure requirements are complete.
• Educate patients and families regarding procedures, care, and discharge instructions.
• Manage supplies and equipment appropriately while supporting cost-effective patient care.
• Assist with patient room preparation, housekeeping, and bed-making as needed.
• Provide PACU care, including airway management, vital-sign monitoring, pain management, critical assessment, and evaluation for safe transfer to Phase 2.
• Follow appropriate procedures for transferring patients to a medical center when required.
• Function as a float nurse, supporting various departments, maintaining patient flow, and assisting staff as needed.
• Work in pain management and eye laser procedure rooms as assigned.
• Assist with anesthesia supplies and nerve blocks; maintain knowledge of crash cart, malignant hyperthermia (MH) cart, and emergency medications.
• Participate in committee meetings, contribute improvement suggestions, and seek guidance when needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
