Shift Matrix:Day Shift | Variable Hours (Variable 12-Hour Shifts)
- Work Schedule: Variable shifts ranging between 06:00 – 18:30, 07:00 – 19:30, 08:00 – 20:30, and 09:00 – 21:30.
- On-Call Matrix Requirements:
Absolute Minimum Qualifications & Departmental Hardstops:
- Licensure Mandate: Active, unencumbered New York State RN License held in hand at submission.
- Experience Baseline: Minimum 2+ years of recent PACU / Pre-Op / Outpatient Surgery RN experience in an acute care hospital setting.
- Mandatory Certifications:
- Active AHA BLS
- Active AHA ACLS
- Active AHA PALS
- Procedural Versatility: Demonstrated competency recovering high-acuity surgical cases across multiple specialties (Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Vascular, General, Plastics, ENT, Breast, GYN, Urology, and Endoscopy).
- On-Call Commitment: Must agree to meet weeknight (21:00 – 07:00), 24-hour weekend (07:00 – 07:00), and holiday call expectations.
Job Summary & Clinical Scope
A Medical Center in Ithaca, NY is seeking an experienced PACU / Pre-Op Registered Nurse (RN PACU / Pre-Op) for a 13-week contract in Prep and Recovery - Main Campus (Department 1136). Operating within a prominent 7-OR community hospital, the RN will direct pre-operative surgical preparation and Phase I / Phase II post-anesthesia recovery across a broad array of inpatient and outpatient surgical specialties.
- Phase I Post-Anesthesia Recovery: Direct Phase I PACU recovery for adult and pediatric surgical patients emerging from general, regional, and local anesthesia; maintain advanced airway management, hemodynamic stability, and acute pain control.
- Pre-Operative Surgical Prep: Conduct comprehensive pre-operative assessments, verify surgical consent/NPO status, establish vascular access, and prepare surgical candidates for 7 main operating suites.
- Specialty Surgical Case Coverage: Provide specialized recovery protocols for Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Vascular, General, Plastics, ENT, Breast, GYN, Urology, and Endoscopy procedures.
- On-Call Emergency Response: Maintain rapid-response availability for emergency surgical interventions, acute airway emergencies, and post-operative complications during scheduled call shifts.
