Progressive Care Unit Registered Nurse (PCU RN) – 13-Week Travel Nursing Contract in Charleston, WV

PCU Travel RN Job Details

- Healthcare Setting: 29-bed progressive care unit within a Level IV trauma and major teaching hospital
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,680-$1,770
- Start Date: October 29, 2026
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks, ending January 28, 2027
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Nursing Shift: 12-hour nights, 7:00 p.m.-7:00 a.m.
- Schedule Options: 3x12 or 4x12 shifts; weekdays with every other weekend required
- Patient Population: Adult and geriatric patients, including post-operative open-heart and cardiothoracic surgical patients
- Orientation: 16 hours; orientation is held every other Thursday
- Electronic Medical Record: Cerner
PCU Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of recent Registered Nurse experience in a PCU, progressive care, cardiac, or cardiothoracic setting
- Current Registered Nurse license in West Virginia or a Compact RN license
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications through the American Heart Association
- Demonstrated proficiency with telemetry, cardiac monitoring, and the interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Experience assisting with chest tube insertion, management, and removal
- Central line management experience
- Experience with external and internal pacemakers and wound vacs
- Ability to manage critical drips such as amiodarone, Cardizem, insulin, heparin, nitroglycerin, dopamine, and argatroban
- Willingness to float within the scope of practice to support patient care needs
- Flu vaccination required; medical exemptions may be considered
Progressive Care RN Responsibilities
- Provide safe, evidence-based nursing care to progressive care patients requiring continuous cardiac monitoring
- Care for post-operative open-heart, cardiothoracic, and other surgical patients, as well as appropriate medical-surgical overflow
- Assess patients, identify changes in condition, and promptly escalate concerns to the appropriate members of the care team
- Interpret telemetry and manage dysrhythmias in accordance with clinical protocols
- Administer and monitor critical cardiac and high-alert medication infusions
- Manage chest tubes, central lines, pacemakers, wound vacs, and other specialized equipment
- Collaborate with physicians, respiratory services, IV teams, rehabilitation professionals, radiology, phlebotomy, and social services
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation in Cerner
- Promote patient and family education, safety, comfort, and continuity of care throughout the assignment
