Registered Nurse (RN) - Neuro Intermediate Care Unit

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Registered Nurse to join our Neuro Intermediate Care Unit. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in neuro nursing and possess the necessary skills to provide high-quality care to our patients.

Job Responsibilities

• Administer medication and monitor patients enrolled in IV insulin protocols and titrated insulin drips.
• Conduct cardiac monitoring, including interpretation of dysrhythmias and management of emergent situations.
• Provide specialized care for patients with neurological conditions, including intracranial bleeds, craniotomy, and post-TPA care.
• Manage feeding tube care and maintain hemodialysis protocols, including Pre/Post care.
• Perform blood product administration and manage central and peripheral lines, including PICC line management.
• Conduct triage, care for ventilated patients, and manage specialized respiratory equipment (e.g., BiPAP/CPAP, high flow nasal cannula).
• Adhere to isolation precautions and employ effective wound care techniques.
• Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes and enhanced teamwork.

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience with a strong focus on neuro care.
• Experience in Neuro Stepdown, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown, and Telemetry.
• Ability to titrate LEVO and manage complex medication protocols.
• Strong teamwork approach and adherence to behavioral expectations in all professional interactions.
• Familiarity with EPIC electronic health record systems is required.
• Current certifications in ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS are mandatory.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, and accessing/managing ports.
• Additional skills in triage, ICP management, and conscious sedation are advantageous.
• Certifications such as CCRN, TNCC, and CPI are preferred.

Work Environment & Scheduling

The unit operates with a patient-to-nurse ratio of 1:4 and consists of a maximum of 24 patients. The average daily census reflects an intermediate patient population, specialized in both neurological and general medical care. The position offers 12-hour night shifts from 18:45 to 07:15, with mandatory weekend shifts required.

Orientation & Onboarding

New hires will undergo 32 hours of orientation, including an 8-hour computer training class followed by two shifts on the unit.

Scrubs are not provided. Employees may wear any combination of navy blue and white scrubs.
