Clinical Nurse

Job Summary

The Clinical Nurse provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting and accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, the role involves coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process within a hospital setting.

Essential Duties

• Education:
  • Identifies and meets personal learning needs.
  • Attends educational programs based on identified learning needs.
  • Utilizes patient education materials relevant to the patient population.
  • Assesses the readiness to learn of patients, families, and caregivers.
  • Evaluates developmental levels of patients and factors affecting their ability to learn.
• Evaluation of Care:
  • Identifies expected patient outcomes.
  • Seeks guidance as needed in revising the plan of care.
  • Participates in discussions with interdisciplinary team members to evaluate patient care.
  • Communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care.
• Implementation:
  • Displays competence in caring for patients with complex problems, including all aspects of care.
  • Performs bedside point-of-care testing as required by the patient care plan.
  • Follows healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies, and procedures during care delivery.
  • Organizes and prioritizes care according to patient and family needs.
  • Consults with appropriate resources timely for complex care issues and discharge planning.
• Leadership:
  • Assists in developing goals for professional growth and addressing limitations.
  • Achieves goals and objectives within the identified timeframe or renegotiates with a supervisor.
