Registered Nurse (RN) - PCU

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) for our Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with a focus on delivering high-quality patient care. This position involves working with patients who require close monitoring and treatment following acute medical interventions.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide patient-centered care to a diverse range of patients, including those with chronic conditions, respiratory failure, and other serious health issues.
• Monitor and assess patients' conditions, including cardiac and respiratory status.
• Administer medications and manage IV therapy, including blood products and central/peripheral line care.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care and facilitate positive health outcomes.
• Implement isolation precautions and ensure adherence to hospital protocols for infection control.
• Participate in rapid response and code team activation as needed.
• Utilize Epic for charting and maintaining accurate patient records.

Qualifications

• Current RN license in Virginia or a compact state.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in a PCU, IMC, or similar unit required.
• ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications are required.
• Previous charge experience preferred.
• Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and management is necessary.
• Familiarity with ventilator care and tracheostomy management is preferred.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage a patient ratio of 1:5.

Work Environment

• Flexibility to float within the skill set as needed.
• Work schedule is comprised of three 12-hour night shifts.
• Weekend coverage required every other weekend.
• Occasional holiday shifts required during the contract period.

Patient Demographics

• Care for adults and geriatric patients experiencing a variety of conditions, including DKA, COPD, sepsis, and chronic respiratory failure.
• Work within a hybrid unit of PCU and ICU beds.

Daily Operations

• Total of 12 beds providing telemetry services, including remote monitoring capabilities.
• Support provided by an interdisciplinary team, including physical therapy, respiratory services, and social services.
• Daily census typically around 12 patients.
