Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• Active RN license in the state of practice or compact licensure
• At least 1 year of RN experience required; 1-2 years preferred for this travel nursing role
• Minimum 6 months of acute care hospital experience preferred
• BLS required prior to direct patient care
• ACLS required within 6 months of hire; preferred at hire if already obtained
• NIH Stroke Certification, PCCN, or CCRN preferred
• Dysrhythmia exam required
• Strong communication, teamwork, and critical thinking skills
• Ability to safely manage patients in a high-acuity stepdown environment

PCU / Stepdown RN Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric progressive care patients
• Complete ongoing assessments, identify priorities, and develop individualized plans of care
• Administer medications safely and in accordance with nursing standards and hospital policies
• Monitor complex patients, including those with chest tubes, hemodynamic concerns, and advanced respiratory needs
• Respond confidently to rapidly changing patient conditions and clinical changes
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and other care team members to coordinate care
• Educate patients and families to support understanding, recovery, and continuity of care
• Promote patient safety, quality improvement, and professional nursing practice
