Job Summary:
The Step Down Unit registered nurse (RN) position is located in a facility in Bismarck, North Dakota. The role involves providing care for adult and geriatric patients with a variety of diagnoses, including cardiac, respiratory, and surgical conditions. The RN will be responsible for monitoring, interpreting patient data, and administering titratable drips in a fast-paced acute care environment.

Job Details:

  • Shift: 12-hour shifts, with a minimum of 36 hours per week. The start date is 08/24/2026.
  • Required Qualifications: Certifications include ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) and BLS (Basic Life Support). Minimum of 2 years of experience in a step down or similar unit, along with relevant experience in cardiac and telemetry care, and the ability to read strips.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Epic electronic medical record system experience.
  • Floats: All areas as helping hands, including full patient load of the step down unit and some emergency room holds/boarding.
  • Duties: Monitor and troubleshoot bedside respiratory equipment such as Bipap, trachs, and airvo. Interpret telemetry strips independently. Deliver titratable medications such as Amio, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, and low-dose Dopamine.
  • Staffing & Scheduling: Shifts are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., with rotations not exceeding weekly. Staffing includes charge nurses on each shift, some float coverage, and nurse aide/patient care tech support at a ratio of 1:10 goal.
  • Additional Information: The unit supports adult and geriatric patients with diagnoses including cardiac caths, EP studies, pacers, alcohol intoxication, COVID-19 Bipap, and other acute/chronic conditions. RTO requests of 7 days or fewer are required upfront.
