PCU Travel Nursing Job Details
- Position: Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Progressive Care Unit
- Location: Columbus, Ohio
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,940–$2,040
- Contract Length: 16 weeks
- Start Date: November 2, 2026
- End Date: February 22, 2027
- Schedule: 36 hours per week; three 12-hour shifts
- Shift: 12-hour nights, approximately 7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m.
- Unit: 36-bed mixed-acuity surgical oncology PCU
- Patient Population: Adults and geriatric patients
- Patient Ratio: Goal of 1:4, with assignments occasionally reaching 1:5
- Weekend Coverage: Variable according to unit needs
- Charting: Epic
- Floating: May be required to other acute-care oncology units within scope of practice
- Orientation: 72 hours
PCU Travel Nurse Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of recent acute-care nursing experience
- At least 1 year of current PCU, progressive care, stepdown, IMC, or DOU experience, with consistent acute-care work within the past 12 months
- Active compact or Ohio Registered Nurse license in hand at the time of submission
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
- Experience with Epic or comparable computerized charting systems
- Experience caring for patients requiring cardiac telemetry, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, BiPAP/CPAP, tracheostomy care, and chest tube systems such as Emerson or PleurEvac
- Graduate of an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited nursing program
- ONS chemotherapy certification is preferred
- Two professional references required, including at least one reference from a manager, director, supervisor, or other formal leader
- Availability to complete Ohio fingerprinting and credentialing requirements promptly after acceptance
Progressive Care Nursing Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in a fast-paced surgical oncology PCU
- Monitor and manage patients receiving telemetry, insulin drips, heparin drips, chemotherapy, IV antibiotics, and blood transfusions
- Recognize and respond to oncologic emergencies, including cytokine release syndrome
- Care for patients with surgical oncology diagnoses involving breast, thyroid, melanoma, hepatobiliary, colorectal, reconstructive plastic, orthopedic, and cardiothoracic procedures
- Perform focused assessments, identify changes in patient condition, and escalate concerns appropriately
- Provide chest tube care and manage patients requiring advanced respiratory support, including BiPAP and CPAP
- Interpret cardiac rhythms and initiate appropriate interventions for dysrhythmias
- Administer medications and treatments safely while maintaining strong infection-prevention and fall-prevention practices
- Collaborate with physicians, IV teams, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, physical therapy, radiology, social services, and rapid response teams
- Document care accurately in Epic and support safe transitions of care
- Float to other acute-care oncology units as needed while practicing within established scope and competencies
