Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team in a progressive cardiac care unit. The nurse will be responsible for providing high-quality care to patients in a stepdown setting, ensuring their comfort and safety while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

Job Details

• Unit Type: Stepdown
• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Experience Required: 2 years in Stepdown in an acute care setting without exception
• Certifications Required: ACLS, BLS (AHA), NIHSS
• Shift Notes: Night shifts from 7 PM to 7 AM
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holidays: Must be flexible and work as needed on holidays and around holidays

Unit Information

• Number of Beds: 44 beds, including 8 semi-private rooms
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: 1 to 5
• Common Diagnoses Capabilities:
  • CABG, cardiovascular surgeries
  • Thoracotomies, EVARS, AAA repairs
  • Chest tubes, pacemaker insertions, and cardioversions

Responsibilities

The Stepdown Registered Nurse (RN) will be responsible for:

• Monitoring patients' conditions, including vital signs and medical equipment
• Administering medications and intravenous (IV) therapies, including titrated drips
• Assisting with patient assessments and developing care plans
• Collaborating with healthcare team members to deliver patient-centered care
• Interpreting cardiac rhythms and reading strips
• Floating to ICU as necessary, primarily with stepdown patients

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a Stepdown or related acute care setting
• Current ACLS, BLS (AHA), and NIHSS certifications
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Willingness to float between ICU and stepdown units when needed

Additional Information

This position may involve working in a high-demand environment with an average patient census of 32-38, requiring flexibility in handling admissions and discharges. Orientation will include 3 shifts to ensure familiarization with unit protocols.
