PCU Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – 12-Hour Night/Mid Shifts in Canton, Ohio
Join a collaborative progressive care team as a PCU Travel Registered Nurse caring for complex neurosurgical, trauma, medical-surgical, and stepdown patients. This 13-week travel nursing assignment in Canton, Ohio, offers the opportunity to care for a diverse patient population in a 24-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with an average daily census of 21–22 patients. Located in welcoming Northeast Ohio, Canton offers convenient access to regional amenities, cultural attractions, and outdoor recreation.

- Patient Ratio: Approximately 1 nurse to 5 patients
- Weekend Rotation: Every third weekend

- Charting and Equipment: Cerner EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Philips monitoring systems
- Floating: May float to stepdown units with the same level of care
PCU Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of recent Registered Nurse experience, preferably in a PCU, stepdown, neurosurgical, trauma, or high-acuity medical-surgical setting
- Active Registered Nurse license in the applicable state
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Associate degree or nursing certificate
- Valid driver's license
- Strong neurological assessment and clinical prioritization skills
- Ability to safely manage patients requiring telemetry, respiratory support, complex drains, chest tubes, and titratable or high-alert medications
- Willingness to participate in weekend and holiday rotations
PCU Travel RN Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care for patients with elective neurosurgical conditions, intracranial hemorrhage, diabetic ketoacidosis, altered mental status, sepsis, cancer, and trauma-related diagnoses
- Perform focused and comprehensive neurological assessments and promptly communicate changes in patient condition
- Manage enteral nutrition, NG tubes, TPN, BiPAP, Airvo, wound vacs, chest tubes, and other specialized therapies
- Safely administer and monitor medications and drips, including amiodarone, dobutamine, heparin, furosemide, and insulin infusions, according to applicable protocols
- Provide wound vac and dressing care, drain management, and post-procedural monitoring
- Collaborate with providers, respiratory therapy, IV services, patient care technicians, transport, case management, social work, and discharge planning teams
- Document patient assessments, interventions, response to treatment, and care plans accurately in the Cerner EMR
- Promote patient safety, education, mobility, discharge readiness, and continuity of care
- Support unit operations by floating to comparable stepdown areas when needed
