- Schedule: Every other weekend and major holidays required
- Setting: 27-bed Cardio-Pulmonary Progressive Care Unit with continuous cardiac monitoring
- Location: Mechanicsville, Virginia 23116
- Work Environment: High-acuity stepdown care with strong unit support and experienced charge nurses
Job Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice or compact license eligibility
- At least 1 year of RN experience required
- Experience in an acute care hospital, stepdown unit, or progressive care setting strongly preferred
- BLS required
- ACLS required
- NIH Stroke Certification required
- Ability to pass an EKG exam at orientation and confidently read and verify rhythm strips
- Proficiency with lab draws and peripheral IV starts
- Experience managing and titrating cardiac drips such as Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Nitroglycerin, and Amiodarone
- Experience with BiPAP and insulin drips required
- Strong communication skills, adaptability, and comfort working in a fast-paced cardiac nursing environment
- Must be able to work within demonstrated competency and scope of practice
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive patient care using the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation
- Monitor cardiac rhythms continuously and respond promptly to changes in patient condition
- Titrate and manage cardiac and insulin drips according to unit protocols and clinical standards
- Care for patients with chest tubes, cardiac rhythm issues, and progressive care needs
- Perform hemodynamic monitoring and support patients requiring advanced respiratory therapies such as BiPAP
- Administer medications safely and accurately in accordance with state practice requirements and facility policies
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to coordinate high-quality, patient-centered care
- Support patient and family education, advocacy, and discharge planning
- Perform lab draws, peripheral IV starts, and other essential clinical procedures as needed
- Float within skill set to ICU hold, Med/Surg, or ED for lower-acuity hold assignments as appropriate
