Opportunity:
RN - Stepdown/PCU
Job Details:
• 12-hour night shifts with weekends as scheduled
• Every other weekend requirement
• May be included in holiday rotation
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-6 depending on acuity
• Must have a minimum of 2 years of Stepdown/PCU experience
• Must be comfortable with cardiac monitoring and cardiac drips
• Required to titrate drips including cardizem, amio, nitro, heparin, dopamine, dobutamine, and angiomax
• Common patient diagnoses include cardiac patients, post pneumonia, post cath lab, seizures, ETOH/CIWA protocols, and pacemakers
• Charge nurse present on each shift; day shift charge does not take a patient assignment unless necessary, night shift charge takes a lighter assignment
• Nurse aides and patient care techs available on unit for ADLs, vitals, bathing, toileting, feeding, repositioning, answering call lights, and blood sugars
• Respiratory therapy available 24/7 and assigned to unit; nurses expected to troubleshoot respiratory equipment including BiPAP, airvo, and trachs
• Monitor techs available 24/7; nurses expected to read and interpret telemetry, print strips, perform measurements, and identify rhythms
• Travelers may be floated to any inpatient unit and are first to float
• Charting system: Cerner
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS
• Scrub color: Navy Blue
• Orientation includes 2 days of general orientation and 1 day with a preceptor
• Must reside outside of a 50-mile radius; copy of unexpired driver's license required at submission
• Any licensing hits must be disclosed at time of submission

This acute care facility operates a 30-bed Stepdown/PCU unit providing specialized intermediate care for patients requiring close cardiac monitoring and complex medical management. The facility offers 24/7 support including respiratory therapy assigned directly to the unit, telemetry monitoring technicians, and nocturnist coverage available for the entire hospital overnight. The organization is equipped with modern cardiac monitoring technology and maintains structured staffing ratios to ensure high-quality patient care.
