Travel RN - PCU/Med-Surg/Oncology Position Summary

CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center - Bergan Mercy - Omaha, NE

  • Orientation: 2 days + 12 hours

Unit Details - 6 East

  • Total Beds: 27-28
  • Nurse:Patient Ratio:
    • PCU: 1:4 (Days), 1:5-6 (Nights)
    • Med/Surg: 1:5 (Days), 1:5-6 (Nights)
  • EMR System: EPIC (experience within 6 months preferred but not required)
  • IV Pumps: Alaris
  • Scrub Color: Navy Blue

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience:
    • 1 year minimum required
    • PCU experience required
    • Oncology experience preferred
    • Charge experience: Minimum 1 year (if applicable)
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (AHA) - required
    • ACLS - required
    • ONS/ONCC (Oncology certification) - Chemo cert PREFERRED, not required
  • License: Active NE or Compact RN license required at submission
  • BSN: Not required
  • First-Time Travelers: Accepted

Patient Population & Clinical Skills

  • Primary Diagnoses:
    • Oncology patients (diagnosis to remission or end-of-life care)
    • Trauma patients
    • Adult med-surg patients
  • Chemotherapy: Administration experience preferred
  • Drip Management:
    • Chemotherapy infusions
    • Heparin
    • Cardizem (occasional titration)
    • Insulin (occasional titration)
    • Protonix
  • Equipment:
    • Can train on: Ventilators, hemodynamic monitoring (CVP, A-line, Swan, EV-1000), ICP monitoring
    • Lyko lifts and other lift equipment available

Staffing Support

  • Charge Nurse: Yes
  • Nursing Assistants: Yes
  • Additional Support: PT/OT, RN case manager, social work, educator, dietician

Schedule Details

  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Scheduling: Self-schedule
  • Shift Options: 7a-7p, 7a-3p, 3p-7p, 7p-11p, 11p-7a, 7p-7a
  • Floating: Yes, to same level of care (Med/Surg and PCU units)
  • RTO: 7 days or less required per 13-week contract (must be included at submission; additional RTO will NOT be approved)

CRITICAL Orientation Requirement ⚠️

PASS/FAIL EXAM on Friday during orientation:

  • Open book exam on skills learned
  • All necessary resources provided
  • Must achieve 90% to pass
  • Failure to pass = contract termination

Local Radius Rule:

  • Must be >50 miles from facility
  • Driver's license required at submittal to verify distance
  • Candidates may NOT be full-time, part-time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit facility (including CHI or Dignity)
