Job Summary: Step Down Unit Registered Nurse (RN) Night Shift Location Description. This role involves providing specialized care for adult patients in a step-down unit, focusing on patients transitioning from intensive care to less acute settings. The position requires clinical expertise, patient-centered care, and teamwork to ensure optimal patient outcomes during a 12-hour night shift schedule.
Job Details:
Schedule: 12-hour night shifts starting on 09/14/2026 and ending on 01/18/2027, with a minimum of 48 hours per week.
Required Qualifications: Valid nursing license, minimum 2 years of experience in a similar setting, certifications in BLS (American Heart Association) and ACLS, strong clinical skills relevant to step-down care, and experience with adult patient populations.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in oncology and charge nurse roles; certification in Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) or Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) preferred but not required.
Float: Float to other Medical/Surgical and Step Down units as needed; float assignments remain at the same level of care.
Orientation: Two days of unit orientation to familiarize with protocols and procedures.
Drips & Skills: Ability to manage titratable medications including insulin, Cardizem, chemotherapy, heparin, Protonix, and other common titratable drips.
Respiratory Equipment: Experience with high-flow oxygen therapy, BiPAP, and ventilators is common on this unit.
Equipment: EMR system used is Epic; IV pumps include Alaris; Lyko lifts are available in even-numbered rooms.
Support Staff: Nursing assistants, charge nurse, physical/occupational therapists, case manager, social worker, educator, and dietitian support the team.
Patient Experience Focus: Emphasis on hourly rounding, bedside shift reports, and compassionate care for a diverse adult patient population.
Additional Details: Candidate must have a valid drivers license to confirm location outside a 50-mile radius. Nail policy prohibits artificial nails in patient care areas. The hospital can cancel up to four shifts per 13-week assignment.
Certifications: ACLS and BLS (American Heart Association) required.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience.
