Job Summary:
Pediatric Psychology is seeking a qualified mental health professional for a night shift position at a facility located in Bangor, Maine. The role involves providing specialized psychiatric care to pediatric patients ages 5 to 18 in a secure, locked inpatient setting. The position offers an opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary team with a focus on both medical and therapeutic interventions, including group therapy and patient de-escalation.

Job Details:

  • Shift: Nights, 12-hour shifts, minimum of 36 hours per week
  • Start Date: 08/17/2026
  • Qualifications: 1+ year of Behavioral Health nursing experience; pediatric behavioral health experience is preferred. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS). Valid Maine State License required.
  • Responsibilities:
    • Respond to patient escalations using de-escalation techniques
    • Conduct medication passes and support therapeutic group sessions
    • Support patient care in both medical and psychiatric aspects
    • Float between adult and pediatric units as needed, with manager approval if uncomfortable with pediatric cases
    • Support as a potential charge nurse if needed
    • Participate in scenario-based training and debriefings
  • Support on the Unit: Nurse Supervisor available evenings/weekends, Nurse Manager available days, staff from all units respond to patient escalations.
  • Charting System: Cerner
  • Floating: Yes, between all units including adults and pediatrics
  • Orientation: One week of facility and unit orientation, followed by scheduled 12-hour shifts
  • Schedule Cycle: Modified self-scheduling with predetermined weekend rotation; shifts are signed up during designated periods.
  • Other notes: Uniforms can be any solid, professional color. Free parking available. Heavy snow conditions expected in winter. The candidate may function as a code leader during escalations.
