Must be willing to care for adult patients as well.
Description:
Unit is a mixed unit of adult and pediatric patients.
The ratio of adults and pediatric patients may vary.
At times, there may be more adults than pediatric patients.
Must be willing to float to the adult unit when needed.
Dysrhythmia exam must be taken and passed within two attempts before signing the contract.
If the exam is not passed, the candidate will be disqualified for 6 months.
The unit has 10 beds.
Patient ratios are 1:3-4 for pediatrics and 1:5 for adult patients.
Common diagnoses include surgical cases like total hip and knee replacements, small bowel resections, and hysterectomies.
Medical cases include MRSA, C-diff infections, COPD, pneumonia, and COVID-19.
Pediatric conditions include respiratory illnesses, seizures, dehydration, and appendicitis.
No feeding tubes, trachs, or vents are present on the pediatric side.
RNs are expected to read telemetry strips for adult patients.
There are remote monitor technicians for adult patients, and bedside monitors for pediatric patients.
Shift scheduling includes 12-hour shifts either from 0700-1900 or 1930-0730.
Weekend requirements are every other weekend for nights and Saturday and Sunday for days.
Holiday rotation distributes holidays fairly among staff.
In cases of low census, staff may be asked to rotate standby turns.
Floats may be required to the birthing unit to care for mother-baby couplets.
Nurses will wear navy scrubs.
Unit-specific orientation will be provided based on experience.
Charting is done using a specific electronic health record system.
RNs are not required to titrate drips.
Nurse aides will take care of specific patient ratios.
