Job Description

Job Opportunity – Pediatric PACU Registered Nurse – Wisconsin

Start Date: October 26, 2026
Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants
Schedule: Evening/Night shifts, 8/10/12 hour shifts between 7:00pm-7:30am or 11:00pm-7:30am with flexibility. Monday-Friday OR Sunday-Thursday with no on-call required.

Highlights:

  • Provide independent peri-anesthetic management for complex pediatric surgical and procedural patients in a comprehensive children's hospital
  • Work with a varied case load including inpatient and outpatient populations across all pediatric age groups (neonates through adolescents)
  • Join a Magnet-designated facility recognized for specialized pediatric care with Level One Pediatric Trauma Center designation
  • Epic electronic medical record system with 24 hours of orientation provided
  • Daily census of approximately 25 patients with extensive interdisciplinary support including IV teams, respiratory services, pharmacy, and rapid response teams
  • Patient ratio experience of 1:1 with Phase I and Phase II PACU recovery

Requirements:

  • Active Wisconsin RN license or compact RN license (pending Wisconsin license accepted with submission)
  • Minimum 2 years of pediatric PACU experience required
  • Epic charting system experience required
  • Level I Trauma Center experience required
  • Previous travel nursing experience required
  • Current BLS and PALS certifications (American Heart Association only)
  • Must successfully pass telemetry competency test prior to start date with strict passing criteria
  • Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions only)
  • Must reside 50 miles or more from facility

Key Skills and Competencies:

  • Management of pediatric patients across all age groups and acuity levels
  • Expertise in airway assessment, extubation, and placement of oral/nasal airways
  • Proficiency in post-operative care including pain management, PCA pump management, and post-epidural management
  • Experience with central line care, arterial line management, blood product administration, and IV vasopressors
  • Competency in dysrhythmia recognition and management, emergency medications, and ABG interpretation
  • Familiarity with wide range of surgical specialties including neuro/spine, orthopedic, ENT, general surgery, and more
  • Strong assessment skills for circulation checks, ventilated patient care, and end-tidal CO2 monitoring
