Travel Nurse RN - Pediatrics - $2,723 per week in Bakersfield, CA

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Pediatrics Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 3 years License: License required Certifications: BLS Certification, PALS Must-Have: Must be able to start their own IVs and possess strong clinical skills Description: Unit notes: No first-time travelers. The unit provides care for pediatric patients. The average census is 8 patients but can fluctuate seasonally. Patient ratios are 4 to 1 for both day and night shifts. BLS and PALS certifications are required. The electronic medical record system is Cerner. There is a charge RN, who does not take patients. Nurse aides are available based on census. Every other weekend work is required. Two major holidays are to be worked. Scrubs should be navy in color. Monitoring is available, but there is no tech. Patients may present with respiratory distress, appendectomy, dehydration, DKA, seizures, or general surgeries. Floating may occur to PICU for low acuity and burn ICU for appropriate pediatric care. Patients range in age up to 13 years, but older developmentally challenged patients may be accepted. Medfusion pumps are used for medication administration. The hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment. Charting is done using an electronic medical record system. BSN is not required for this position. Rotating shifts are from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. Staff receives a 30-minute break and three 15-minute breaks per shift. The respiratory therapy team is available 24/7. Pharmacy services are open 24/7. Standby may be required when census drops. Unit orientation consists of four shifts: two in Pediatrics, one in PICU, and one in Burn.
