JOB DESCRIPTION
RN - Peds PACU

Shift: 12hr Day Shift - 36
Shift Information: 7am-7pm
Clinical Interviewing- Yes/No: Yes - Manager to conduct final interview
On Call, Call Back Requirements: Weekend rotation/On-Call: 4-5 call shifts in an 8 week period that include nights, weekends, and holidays
Weekend Rotation: Weekend rotation/On-Call: 4-5 call shifts in an 8 week period that include nights, weekends, and holidays
Holiday Requirements: Weekend rotation/On-Call: 4-5 call shifts in an 8 week period that include nights, weekends, and holidays
Floating Requirements: Occasionally care for adult patient


About Facility:
o 885 licensed beds
o Level 1 Trauma Designation
o Teaching Hospital – Yes, Academic Medical Center
o Chest Pain Center
o Stroke Center

Unit Information:
o Beds: 20 bays
▪ Average census 30-40 patients per day
o Minimum Years of Experience required? 1 year required, 2 years preferred in the critical care peds space
o Will you accept a first-time traveler? No, must have completed at least one travel assignment

Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
o Serves primarily pediatric patients (ages 0–17); primarily inpatient but also outpatient
o Covers most surgical specialties, with the exception of cardiac

Patient Ratios:
o RN: 1:1; 1:2 acuity dependent

Required Certification:
o BLS, PALS

Skills required:
o Vented patients go straight to the ICU, would rarely see BiPAP patients
o Comfortable managing gtts you would commonly see in the ICU—heparin, insulin, sometimes cardiac
o Limited use of BiPAP, primarily in post-operative settings
o Occasionally cares for adult patients based on unit needs
o Self-motivated, resourceful—asks for help if doesn't know the answer to something, team player, open bay unit so works in a "all hands on deck” mentality

Support within the Department:
o Transporter
o HUC/Receptionist
o PACU educator
o Dedicated charge/manager that does not take patients
o No phlebotomy
o Anesthesia available 24/7
o Nurses responsible for telemetry monitoring

Technology/Equipment:
o EMR: EPIC
o IV Pump: Alaris
o Med dispensing: Omnicel
o Monitors: Philips

Floating: If yes, where?
o Occasionally care for adult patient but they would be brought to their unit

o NEO day with facility
o 2 precepted shifts
