Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: PACU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years of experience in ER, ICU, or PACU required License: Valid state license required Certifications: ACLS BLS NIH PALS Must-Have: Pre-op and PACU experience No first-time travelers Description: This is a combined Pre-Operative and PACU/Recovery unit. Nurses will primarily work either in Pre-op or PACU based on the schedule. All nurses are trained to work in both areas. The unit has an average daily census of 35-50 patients. The patient age group includes adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Limited pediatrics are encountered. Unit staffed 24/7. Shifts are 12 hours long, with flexible start times depending on the area of assignment. On weekends, staff will work in pairs. Call is required for all staff, with the expectation of 2-3 shifts per month. Call shifts are weekdays typically from 10 PM to 5 AM and weekends may vary. The unit supports a busy robotic program and an active orthopedic total joint program. Experience with monitoring and managing complex cases is essential. Nurses will handle postoperative patients recovering from various surgical procedures. The role includes pain assessments and management, medication administration, and postoperative care. Familiarity with Epic electronic documentation is preferred. Travelers may be required to float to outpatient surgery centers occasionally. Flexibility in scheduling is expected.
