Description:
Conduct postoperative assessments and monitor recovery in the PACU.
Provide pain management and implement recovery protocols.
Educate patients and families on postoperative care instructions, medications, and follow-up appointments.
Charge nurse typically will have a light patient assignment.
Registered Nurses are expected to be able to read and interpret their own telemetry.
Weeknight call requirement is one time per week.
Weekend call requirement is one time per month, either Saturday or Sunday.
Call response time is 30 minutes.
Scrub color is navy blue.
There is no floating required on this unit.
Unit-specific orientation lasts 3-5 days with a preceptor.
The unit has a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:1-2.
Common cases include general, orthopedic, urology, vascular, and podiatry procedures.
Respiratory therapy and anesthesia are available on the unit.
Monitoring technicians assist with telemetry, while Registered Nurses are responsible for their own readings.
No additional staff such as nurse aides are present on this unit.
